What's it like to work at Sierra Wireless?
It's challenging - and very satisfying. People work in small teams developing real products for real-world applications for everything from fighting fires and crime to helping individuals and companies communicate more effectively wherever they are. Teams have a lot of independence - and a lot of responsibility. People are very focused and friendly. Dress is business casual. There's a lot of social interaction outside of work at corporate events and in activities organized by our social committee, which also encourages people with shared interests to get together to pursue group activities.

We offer a comprehensive benefits package which includes dental, extended health, life insurance, short and long term disability coverage. Employees start with 3 weeks vacation in their first year. What kind of extracurricular activities does Sierra Wireless offer?
At both the Richmond and Carlsbad offices there is a fitness facility where you can work out with weights, elliptical machines, treadmills and stair machines. We have foosball and ping-pong tables in the Richmond office. There's a lunchroom where you can get to know other Sierra Wireless employees. We have a social committee that organizes off-site activities like volleyball tournaments, basketball games, charity running events, hockey games and ultimate Frisbee tournaments. The committee encourages people with shared interests to get together for group activities; the hiking club and public speaking group are a good example of this. We also have quarterly potlucks in our Richmond office.
Are there any particular technology developments that you can tell me about? What kind of things are you working on?
Sierra Wireless is - and intends to remain - "the heart of the wireless machine." This means we will develop hardware and/or software for every wireless data network, and most applications. We are currently working on products that support UMTS, HSDPA and 1xEV-DO technologies.
What does Sierra Wireless do in the area of community involvement?
We're strong community supporters. Sierra Wireless participates in the United Way campaign and other local charitable, educational and technological efforts. We're also a corporate sponsor of Science World, a non-profit community resource that promotes exploration of the arts, sciences and technology, and a sponsor of an international ski competition at Whistler.
